European Collection of Cell Cultures
ECACC is one of the premier collections of authenticated animal cell cultures in the world, established in 1984 in order to service the research community and provide a recognised (IDA) patent depository for Europe.
The collections currently hold over 40,000 cell lines representing 45 different species, 50 tissue types, 300 HLA types, 450 monoclonal antibodies and at least 800 genetic disorders. The development and maintenance of such a diverse collection has inevitably produced a high level of specialist knowledge enabling ECACC to position itself as a centre of expertise in all aspects of cell culture.
In addition to cell lines, ECACC offers a variety of cell products and services. Cell products include high quality, purified genomic DNA. The services available include:
- Testing for microbial contamination, including mycoplasma, bacterial, fungal and viral contaminants
- Authentication of cell lines
- Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) immortalisation of human peripheral blood lymphocytes to produce lymphoblastoid cell lines
- Safe Deposit Service
- International Depository Authority (IDA) Patent Deposit Service
- Contract Cell Banking
- Cell Culture Scale-up and Process Development
- Cell Culture Training Courses
- Growth Promotion Testing of Bovine Serum
