BIOQUELL specialise in the design, manufacture and application of cutting edge systems for the containment and environmental control of airborne and surface contamination within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, military and laboratory based markets.

Highly flexible, hydrogen peroxide gas generators offer significant advantages over traditional and hazardous formaldehyde "fogging" techniques.

The bio-decontamination of micro-organisms such as bacteria (including anthrax), viruses and fungi has enjoyed a raised profile in recent years. This has resulted from a number of factors, from world events, (e.g. SARS), terrorist threats and homeland security, (e.g. anthrax) to developments in good manufacturing practice for the pharmaceutical sector and a need to stem the spread of Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI) and antibiotic resistant "superbugs" such as MRSA.

BIOQUELL has developed and markets a range of products and services employing a patented process of hydrogen peroxide vapour generation for the bio-decontamination of contaminated equipment, rooms or even buildings.

This technology has also been adopted by many market leaders in the pharmaceutical industry, where rapid bio-decontamination means reduced factory downtime, improved productivity and increased profitability, while eliminating "fogging" with formaldehyde, now confirmed by the World Health Organisation as a carcinogen.

With many years experience in the field of filtration systems, BIOQUELL also manufacture a range of fume cabinets for extraction and containment under the Astec and Microflow brands and is one of the dominant players in the laboratory containment and fume extraction system market.

Based in Hampshire, BIOQUELL now has operations around the world, including subsidiary companies in America and France.

    Adam Thompson
As more and more companies change their decontamination protocols from traditional methods such as formaldehyde fumigation, BIOQUELL has seen a positive upturn in the need to provide an alternative which offers a safe, easy to use and highly effective method in the form of hydrogen peroxide vapour (H2O2). This article looks at the reasons for this change and the various applications of BIOQUELL’s Clarus technology, specifically involved in the decontamination of laboratory equipment.
