Remploy Healthcare gets hands on with the new TheraTogsâ„¢ orthotic therapy system

Remploy Healthcare is proud to be the only UK based global partner for TheraTogs™ - a new flexible, breathable orthotic undergarment and physical therapy system that has garnered a worldwide reputation.

As an effective tool in the management of a wide variety of sensorimotor disorders featuring problems with movement control, body alignment and balance.

Originally launched in the US three years ago, TheraTogs™ is revolutionary new orthotic undergarment and strapping system, created by Internationally acclaimed author, inventor and rehabilitation expert Beverly Cusick PT, MS, BOC.

Remploy Healthcare was selected as the only global partner for TheraTogs™ in this country due to its status as the UK's largest employer of disabled people, which fit the caring ethos of US-based company Progressive GaitWays where Ms Cusick is President and CEO.

TheraTogs™ are giving therapists and caretakers a new way to offer stability, mobility and strengthening support to people with developmental alignment problems, developmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy and neuromotor impairments due to traumatic brain injury, stroke and multiple sclerosis.

A TheraTogs™ system consists of two undergarments - a sleeveless, foam-lined TankTop and a Hipster with two thigh cuffs - and an assortment of elasticised straps of different widths, shapes and calibres of stiffness.

Worn directly on the skin, under normal attire, they provide both joint compression and a secure, Velcro® sensitive exterior field or 'skin' to which clinicians and carers may attach elasticised straps in any configuration.

The clinician fits the undergarments snugly to the patient (trimming along prescribed cut-lines as needed) and on the basis of evaluation results, designs a strapping system.

On re-evaluation, the strapping application can be adjusted to optimise their influence on movement, stability or posture, generally shortening muscles that are weak or overlong and helping them work more effectively.

TheraTogs™ are made of NuStimWrap® and ProWrap® - two patented, foam-lined, composite fabrics that are both elasticised and latex-free. Thin, light and hand-washable, they readily ventilate body heat and moisture.
